editorial direction

Editorial direction, brand tone of voice, messaging, style guidelines, music curation.

Silent Songs occupies an unusual space: part independent record label, part lifestyle publication, with a selection of playlists organised not by genre but by experience: Stillness, Clarity, Movement, Sleep. That structure is a curatorial argument: that the right music for the right moment is as much a matter of what your body and mind are doing as what you want to listen to. The editorial work was about building out the written and content layer that would hold that argument, making the label's point of view legible and sustained across a publication that could stand alongside the music rather than merely promoting it.

The content strategy centred on the same principles as the catalogue: intentionality over volume, atmosphere over noise. In a space where most music platforms default to algorithmic abundance, Silent Songs needed editorial that reflected its counter-position — curated, considered, and grounded in a genuine perspective on how listening shapes daily life. The direction shaped how the brand spoke across all its touchpoints: the written content that contextualised releases, the editorial framing of artists and collections, and the overall voice of a publication that understood music as an environmental and experiential practice, not just a product.
